Cat Tree Buying Guide: Perch Size, Stability and Room Fit
The HT Buying Guides · Updated October 1, 2026
Choose a cat tree by usable resting space and access, then check height and room fit. The tallest design is not automatically the most comfortable. A compact tower with the right perch or retreat can serve your cat better than a large structure with narrow resting spots.

Two current options to compare
| Option | Verified listing details | A useful shopping question |
|---|---|---|
| Armarkat B6802 | 68-inch height; 22-by-22-inch base; 14-by-14-inch perches; condo and six levels | Will your cat fit comfortably on the perches, and can you accommodate the full structure? |
| Queens Kastle | 41-inch height; 20-by-22-inch base; sisal scratching area; removable roof | Do you prefer a covered retreat with easier cleaning access? |
Measure the cat and the room
Measure the area where your cat settles when curled up, and compare that with the individual perch or bed surface. Then mark the tower’s footprint on the floor. Allow for nearby doors, furniture and the route your cat will take up and down. Total product height is only one part of this decision.
Check the base dimensions and assembly instructions. Position the structure on a level surface, tighten components as instructed and periodically check for loosening. Use any manufacturer-specified anchoring. Do not assume a quoted weight capacity is a guarantee against tipping or proof that every perch supports the same weight.
Choose routes your cat can use
Young energetic cats may enjoy several levels; a cat with limited mobility needs reachable steps and lower resting choices. A covered space should have enough room to enter, turn and exit comfortably. In a multi-cat home, one tower may complement other separate resting areas rather than meet every cat’s needs by itself.
The FelineVMA environmental guidelines support access to safe places and distributed resources. The point is choice, not simply adding more height. If furniture is shared, watch whether one cat prevents another from using it.
Inspect care and construction
Compare the scratching surface, covered areas and cleaning access. The Armarkat listing describes faux fleece and sisal scratching posts; Queens Kastle describes a removable roof and sisal area. Check the particular color and finish variant before deciding how it will fit your room. Clean according to manufacturer instructions and replace damaged components when appropriate.
Shop the right category
Browse Cat Trees & Scratchers for furniture, then use How to Choose a Cat Bed if the real priority is resting comfort. If you already have a tower, Cat Enrichment at Home can help you evaluate placement before another purchase. Choose the product that fills a missing role.
Questions before you buy
What matters more, height or perch size?
Perch size and an accessible route should come first. Height is useful only if your cat can comfortably use the structure.
Can several cats share one tree?
They may, but provide other separated safe resting areas too. Consider social habits, individual perch size and the manufacturer’s capacity guidance.
